Parts Now! Offers Technical Support, Repair Service for Xerox Printers
MIDDLETON, Wis. — Parts Now!, a laser printer parts distributor in North America, has added Xerox to its product mix.
Xerox, known for being a dominant player in the copier industry, is rapidly becoming a strong performer in the color printer market. According to recent Gartner data, Xerox is positioning itself to be one of the three top makers of color business printers in the U.S. market.
”Xerox has a very compelling color story,” said Jason Jensen, vice president of business development. “Its innovative color technology produces documents that rival the leaders in the color printer market. As the market continues the transition to color, Xerox is well-positioned to be a major player. Service dealers will likely find more and more Xerox printers in the field, so to stay competitive, we believe that our customers will need to service Xerox equipment.”
Currently, it is not very convenient to service Xerox office printers. Xerox differs from traditional printer manufacturers like Hewlett-Packard and Lexmark, in that they have a closed parts distribution system. This lack of parts availability not only makes it difficult to find the Xerox brand but also causes higher prices due to few alternatives.
As more and more Xerox printers enter the market, repairing these machines presents a growing challenge for service dealers.
Parts Now! is using its nearly two decades of expertise to source, stock and ship the most-needed spare printer parts for Xerox. The company got its start in 1989, a time when the service market faced similar limitations sourcing parts for Hewlett-Packard, the market leader in laser printers.
“In a bearish economy, service dealers simply cannot turn business away,” Jensen said. “They cannot leave their customers with printers that don’t work just because they cannot find the missing parts.”
Parts are one void in the marketplace. Another is the lack of technical support. Xerox uses solid ink technology engineering, which is substantially different from the dominant players’ toner cartridge approach. Very few organizations in the industry offer technical support to dealers moving into the Xerox market. Unless a dealer is authorized by Xerox, service manuals are hard to find. Parts Now! plans to offer a complete solution with its Xerox launch by offering technical support, a quick reference guide, an expert Xerox sales team and also printer repair training for Xerox printers.
