Recharger Magazine’s World Expo becomes a teenager this year, and as we celebrate that milestone, we’re also saddened by the loss of someone who was instrumental in the birth of the show.
Donna Enerson passed away July 3. She and her husband Tom were a guiding force in the recharger industry and at Recharger Magazine for many years. Donna served as managing editor of Recharger, and was also vital in launching World Expo in 1996.
It seems appropriate then that Donna should be remembered in the Expo issue of Recharger Magazine. Look in the August B issue, in your mail and at the show, for a special tribute to Donna.
I never had the opportunity to meet Donna and I regret that. Every day I walk on a trail that she blazed, and I’ve never been so keenly aware of that as I have been in the last few weeks.
As we prepare for World Expo this year we are all walking on Donna’s trail. World Expo isn’t a baby anymore though. From that first year at the Tropicana, all the way down to the Riviera and back up to the Mandalay Bay (with a quick stop at the Sands thrown in), Expo has traveled, grown and matured into the show it is today.
I realized that, as I prepare for my seventh Expo, I’ll have been at more than half of the events in World Expo history. Some of you laugh and say “that’s nothing.” There are many of you out there who are veterans of all the Expos, and I tip my hat to you. It’s my good fortune to speak with many of you on a regular basis, to see you at events and to listen to your thoughts on the evolving industry.
