HP Appoints Chief Ethics Officer

October 13, 2006

HP today announced the appointment of Jon Hoak as vice president and chief ethics and compliance officer, effective Oct. 11, 2006.

Hoak, 57, will be responsible for HP’s adherence to its Standards of Business Conduct and report to the company’s chairman and chief executive officer, Mark Hurd, until a general counsel is named.

Prior to joining HP, Hoak served as senior vice president and general counsel for NCR from 1993 until May 2006 and previously served for three years as an attorney for AT&T. Prior to that, he was a partner at the law firm of Sidley Austin.

“Jon brings a wealth of experience to HP, both as an attorney and a business leader,” said Hurd. “HP has traditionally led the industry in adherence to standards of ethics, privacy and corporate responsibility, and with Jon’s guidance, we will lead again.”

Among Hoak’s responsibilities will be working with Bart Schwartz, an outside counsel who was hired last month to perform an independent assessment of current investigative practices and develop future best practices. Schwartz formerly worked as an assistant U.S. attorney under Rudy Giuliani.
